The former owner, Stephen Rakes and his wife claimed to have spent close to $100,000 to build up the business.
He said Whitey Bulger, Stephen Flemmi and Kevin Weeks paid him a visit and told him they were going to kill him if he didn’t give over the business, Rakes said they put a bag of money on the table, which was about $67,000 and said we own the store and start laughing.
In 2003 Whitey Bulger was ordered to pay Rakes $28 million.
Stephen Rakes was due to testify against Bulger during his trial but was found dead in suspicious circumstances
